The Street Harpist
Sunday November 1 @ 8:00 PM – 10:00 PM
The Richmond Revival is delighted to welcome the return of Conni Dawson with her new show of story telling and harp playing.
Conni will be returning this coming November 1st to entertain us with traditional stories passed down in the Seanachaí tradition of old. Conni brings well needed new life to this tradition which is very much in need of renewal as our old stories and traditions are in danger of extinction.
The Celtic year starts on the 1st of November, with the dying sun and the darkening days of winter edging ever closer to the solstace. Samhain is a time for gathering, for games, a watchful time as the veil between worlds thins and the Other Folk pass through.
Known as ‘na h’Aos Sí’ and other melevolant spirits the celts stayed close to the light of a fire to ward off the spirits and dressed in costumes to fool them into thinking they were also spirits whilst making offerings to appease them.
Storyteller and harper Conni Dawson invites you to join her for a Samhain special of Irish myth and music with tales of the dark to remind us why we turn to the light.
Conni Dawson, known as The Street Harpist, is a traditional Irish musician and storyteller. Fermanagh born and Clare raised, she has always felt a deep connection with the whole island of Ireland and through her works seeks to highlight our shared history, heritage and the community and connection we create through story, art and music.
Whether tracing stories through the landscape on her annual Storylines tour, or bringing tales to life to celebrate events ranging from local all the way to astronomical, Conni’s storytelling combines speech, song, music, poetry and art to transport you to the world of gods, monsters, myth and magic that lies just beyond the veil of everyday life.
