Kíla Ceathar

Friday May 23 @ 7:00 PM 10:00 PM

Another one The Richmond Revival is delighted to announce. Kíla 4 will be coming to Fermoy this May with an array of instruments and musical escapades we’ve all come to know and love them for.

As fans, you’ll know Kíla in their more expansive line up. For The Richmond Revival, Kíla will perform as a four piece, featuring the Ó Snodaigh brothers Rónán, Rossa, and Colm.

Lead singer and poet Rónán is known for writing the band’s songs deeply rooted in his Irish language upbringing. His poetry is informed by his background as a renowned percussionist on the Irish bódhran. His poetry is informed by the inherent rhythms of Irish Gaelic.

The Brothers Ó Snodaigh

Apart from the bodhrán, Rónán is a multi-instrumentalist featuring on the djembe, congas, bongos, guitar as well as vocals. Rossa is a fellow multi-instrumentalist featuring on the tin whistle, low whistle, clarinet, bazouki, mandolin, bones, along with vocals. And Colm completes the multi-instrumentalist trifecta featuring on flute, tin whistle, guitar, saxophone, percussion, as well as vocals also.

Tickets €27.50 (inclusive of booking fee) — Doors open 7pm — Gig starts 8pm

For those of you who are used to our gigs, we’re changing things up a little for this one. Due to the nature and energy of Kíla’s music, and it’s effects on ones compulsion to move ones body, this gig will be half seated and half standing to allow for a bit of body movement 😉

About Kíla

Formed at school in Dublin’s late 1980’s, Award-winning band, Kíla is heralded as one of Ireland’s most innovative and exciting bands.

Their unique sound has been ever evolving, rooted in tradition, yet inspired by a myriad of influences and ideas from all around the world.

Often defined as contemporary Irish World music, Kíla fuse the effects of their own melodies and Irish (Gaeilge) lyrics, Irish folk instruments such as whistles, fiddles, Uilleann pipes, bones and bodhrán with djembe, congas, drums, mandolins, brass, and acoustic/electric/ bass guitars. The result is a fresh blend of freewheeling instrumentals, furious jigs, and primal rhythms that transcend the traditional boundaries of Irish music.

Kíla have worked extensively in TV and film. In 2020 they won the IFTA for Best Original Score for the soundtrack or Arracht (TG4). Their most notable collaborations have been with French composer Bruno Coulais on the soundtracks for Cartoon Saloon’s three Oscar-nominated animated films The Secret of Kells (2010), Song of the Sea (2014), and most recently for Wolfwalkers (2020).
